Questions? Email Sandy at sandy@resoundingharmony.org.

Program Notes: A massed children's chorus will be performing the first half of the concert - a world premier by Joseph Martin. We are inviting others to join us for the second half of the program in celebration of Sing for the Cure.

Rehearsals: Guest singers planning to sing ONLY at Carnegie Hall have no required rehearsals until we get to New York City to rehearse. However, guest singers who live in the DFW area and would like to rehearse with us are welcome to attend using the schedule above.

Notes for our Guest Singers:

Guest singers may choose to sing just one concert with us or both - there are no requirements regarding singing one or the other concert.

Memorizing Sing for the Cure is not required of our guests. However, Resounding Harmony will be memorizing (as is our custom) so our guests will feel better about their participation if they also memorize the music.

Memorizing "Groundless Ground" and "One Voice" will be required for all due to clapping in "Groundless Ground" and singing and using sign language for "One Voice."

Guest singers planning to sing in either or both performances should contact Sandy Huneke no later than January 31. Sandy can be reached using one of the contact methods above.

Do you think you might know someone who would help underwrite our performance at the Meyerson?

Message from Dr. Tim Seelig

Dear Singer,

You are most likely reading this because you have an interest in singing for the 10th Anniversary of Sing for the Cure at Carnegie Hall next June 6, 2010.

It is going to be the most amazing culmination of 12+ years of the journey that has been Sing for the Cure.

We are currently at approximately 180 singers who have expressed an interest. We are planning on a chorus of around 200, so it would be a good idea for you to go ahead and firm up your plans!
By the way, at this point, there are 120 from Dallas and 60 from all over the U.S. We are thrilled!

We are attaching a sample rehearsal schedule. It is not firm, but will give you an idea of the time commitments. The good news? There are no evening rehearsals – so you are free to enjoy New York to the fullest!

The biggest, most important question: Attire? We will wear formal black. Resounding Harmony wears black with a splash of the 4 colors in our logo. This would look fantastic, so we’ll go with that. If you don’t have the splash of color, all black is just fine.

Music: If you do not already have a score, we will have those available through Robert Huneke very soon. We are also working getting recordings to help you rehearse. This will be a full performance CD.

Solos: We will be auditioning all solos. Once you get your music, you can decide if you would like to audition. You will need to send an audition CD if interested. More on that later.
Remember, you are in charge of your own travel and hotel accommodations. Rehearsals will most likely take place at the Park Central Hotel – right across the street from Carnegie Hall. There are some fantastic rates available.

Some of you have asked for a little more information on Sing for the Cure itself.

Why “Sing for the Cure”?

In 1998, the founder of the Komen Foundation, Nancy Brinker, knowing that one of the most powerful ways the messages surrounding breast cancer could be delivered was through music, decided to do something about it. As she said, “The Komen Foundation has talked and talked. Millions have listened. But perhaps even more would listen if the message were delivered through music.”

Thus began the two-year journey that was the creation of “Sing for the Cure.” The world premier occurred in June, 2000 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas with Dr. Maya Angelou narrating. It was an amazing culmination of the hard work of many, many people.

In the incredibly gifted hands of poet/librettist Pamela Martin Tomlinson and 10 different composers, the stories literally spring to life. The mother, diagnosed, whose questioning words are, “Who will curl my daughter’s hair?” The daughter’s plaintive lullaby, “Come to me, mother, again in my dreams.” The spouse, vowing “I made a promise. That promise lives on.” The rousing “Stepping out in faith over groundless ground,” and finally, “We are one voice. We will keep on singing ‘til the ribbons that we wear wave like banners of life!”

Each of the 10 pieces carries a powerful message in the journey that is breast cancer. Accompanied by full orchestra, the pieces are set apart by poignant narration telling the stories.

In literally hundreds of performances, “Sing for the Cure” has moved audiences across North America, Canada, the U.K and soon Australia. In every setting, large or small, it has brought the messages of comfort, faith and the hope of victory. The work literally takes the listener on a journey through the myriad emotions and experiences. No one is left untouched as the rousing finale brings the audience to its feet with renewed energy for the fight.

Why “Sing for the Cure”? Because there is no medium more powerful than music to move the hearts of people. Wed to the powerful messages in the exhilarating music, there is no effort more worthwhile than bringing this music to those who will be in attendance – not to mention the life-changing experience we will all have performing it.

We would love to have you join us in this labor of love - the 10th Anniversary of Sing for the Cure.

Administrative Update 12/10/09

Dear Sing for the Cure Singer,

I can’t believe it is already December. Carnegie Hall will be here before we know it.

You are receiving a new batch of information about the event to help keep you excited and on track!! Click on the following link to view the PDF file of information.
www.resoundingharmony.org/Carnegie.pdf

We currently have right at 150 singers. We can take this number up to around 200, so encourage your friends to join us in singing!!

In January, we will begin the audition process for soloists. If you would like to be considered, please let me know. If I have not heard you sing before, you will need to submit an audition CD – preferably with music from SFTC.

We are going to have the most amazing time together. I am thrilled that you have decided to join us. If you are not from Dallas and would like to join us on May 12 when we perform Sing For The Cure at the Meyerson, think about making that trip as well!! It’s not New York City, but we can guarantee a very warm welcome – mostly likely 100+ degrees!

Have a wonderful holiday season and we will begin more regular communication in January.

Yours,

Tim
